The Hamburger Sign refers to the immediate desire for a hamburger (or some other heavy food) in a kid who has just had a spinal tap.  The Hamburger Sign is an excellent indication that the kid has viral—rather than bacterial—meningitis.  In viral meningitis, the spinal tap is often therapeutic.

The Gus Burger Sign refers to the immediate desire for a Gus Burger (or some other late night food) in a 23-year-old who has just had three or more drinks.  The Gus Burger Sign is an excellent indication that the young adult has alcohol-induced—rather than activity-induced—hunger.  In alcohol-induced hunger, continued administration of beer often increases the likelihood of a trip to the White Spot.
