It Exists!

You know how Augie from Role Models is obsessed with LAIRE (Live Action Interactive Role-playing Explorers)?  Well, today I was running through Central Grounds, and just as I passed the Curry School of Education, I saw a group of 20 or so people dressed up in medieval garb and fighting with swords.  I can't believe this stuff actually happens in real life!  I also can't believe I don't carry my camera with me when I go running!  Next time, I'll be ready...

Those aren't LARP folks; they're from the Society for Creative Anachronism. Charlottesville is in the Kingdom of Atlantia, which is known for having some of the most well-trained fighters in all of the SCA. Stop by some time and say hi to the tall blonde guy training the heavy fighters (Sir Corby--yes, he's a knight in the SCA, which means he is one of the most accomplished fighters on the east coast) and/or his wife, the blonde lady who is about my height (Mistress Thjora--she also has earned many awards in the SCA for service and achievement) and who is the one of the trainers of the fencers. Also, you could come to the Dance and Dessert Revel tomorrow night in Newcomb Ballroom to learn some Medieval dances. Danny and I will probably be there. :-)
